The line everyone sees first

Quick answer

Roofline lighting outlines the edges of your roof: eaves, gables, ridges and peaks. Pronto measures each run, tells you how many feet of lights to rent or buy, and installs them on clips so the line stays straight through the season.

A roofline is the part of a display you see from the end of the street. Done well, it shows the shape of the house in one clean line. Done in a hurry, it droops between clips and wanders at the corners.

The difference is in the measuring and the clips. We measure every run before you get any lights, so you rent or buy the right length. Then each bulb goes on its own clip, facing the same way as the one beside it.

Which bulbs go on a roofline?

You choose the bulb and the color. Three choices cover most rooflines.

C9 bulbs

The classic large bulb. It reads clearly from the street and suits long runs and two-story homes.

Good for main rooflines.

C7 bulbs

The same shape in a smaller size. It suits single-story homes and lower rooflines seen up close.

Good for porches and low eaves.

Icicle and mini lights

Icicle strands hang below the eave for a softer line. Mini lights suit railings and window frames.

Good as a second layer.

LED versions of all three use far less power than older incandescent sets, so more lights can share one outlet.

What makes a roofline look right

From the street you should see the lights and the shape of the house. You should not see cords, gaps or bulbs pointing in different directions.

  • Straight runs. Bulbs sit at one height and one angle along each edge.
  • Clean corners. Lines meet neatly at peaks and returns.
  • Tidy cords. Leads run where they are hard to see from the street.
  • The right clip. Gutter, shingle and tile each take a different clip.

Roof or edgeHow the lights go on
Clay or concrete tileTile clips hold each light at the edge of the tile. Common on homes across the Conejo Valley.
Composition shingleShingle clips slide under the edge of the shingle and hold the bulb upright.
Gutters and fasciaGutter clips hook over the lip of the gutter and point every bulb the same way.
Two-story and steep roofsThese take taller ladders and more time. We plan for both before install day.
Flat roofs and parapetsLights follow the parapet edge. Many commercial buildings use this layout.

Roofline lighting questions

Have a different question? Call (213) 800-4951 or see all questions.

How do you attach lights to my roof?

With clips made for the surface: gutter clips, shingle clips or tile clips. The clip holds each bulb at the same angle, and that is what keeps the line straight.

Can you light a two-story roofline?

Yes. We light one and two-story homes. Tell us about the height and pitch in your quote request so we bring the right ladders.

How many feet of lights do I need?

It depends on your roofline. After we measure, we give you the length of each run, so you can rent or buy the right amount.

Should I choose warm white or multicolor?

Warm white gives a classic look and suits most house colors. Multicolor is brighter and more playful. You can also mix them: warm white on the roofline and color on the trees.

Can you install lights I already own?

Yes. Bring out what you have and we check that every strand is rated for outdoor use and working before it goes up. If something needs replacing, we tell you before install day.

Do you take the lights down after the holidays?

Yes. We schedule removal and takedown in January, take everything down and pack your lights so they are ready to store or return.
